movin' on up

Steve has just been named Chair of the English Department at Macalester. It's a big honor with big commitments to go along with it, but I'm pretty excited for him and know that he will be a terrific chair. On the down side, this means that he has to postpone his leave that was scheduled for next spring. On the upside, he gets two course releases next year, which means he'll be teaching two classes in the fall and one in the spring.

In other, less exciting news, I am now experiencing "pregnancy-related nausea," the newer, more accurate term for morning sickness. Oh the joys of the human body!

Gee, Steve, thanks a lot! First you get tenure in 4 years and now you're incoming department chair--this sets the bar a bit high for the academic types who are a few years behind you..... ;) Seriously, tho, congrats!! That is super. Tenure, a new baby, and department chair all in 18 months! Not too shabby!!! :)
