Greenpoint's where it's at.
I am so happy living where I'm living. It takes me a shorter amount of time to get to where my work it, than if I was still living in the city. I am in union square in 15 minutes, and Greenpoint is close to averything.
I think I made a really wise choice to move to the big BK!

movin' on up
Steve has just been named Chair of the English Department at Macalester. It's a big honor with big commitments to go along with it, but I'm pretty excited for him and know that he will be a terrific chair. On the down side, this means that he has to postpone his leave that was scheduled for next spring. On the upside, he gets two course releases next year, which means he'll be teaching two classes in the fall and one in the spring.
In other, less exciting news, I am now experiencing "pregnancy-related nausea," the newer, more accurate term for morning sickness. Oh the joys of the human body!

Bienvenidos a Miami
the gene pool
Hey everyone, I just got back from a week in Miami, and boy it was the best trip ever!! I got flown down by these pollsters because I won this award for best student paper, and they put me up in a swanky 4 star hotel suite! I presented my paper and everyone seemed to like it because I ran out of copies of the paper and got a few on-the-spot job offers. Not bad for my first time at this conference! I also got to see my grandma on my dad's side of the family, which was great, and I also partied a lot with my best friend who lives in Miami right on South Beach! And of course...the best part of the trip involved a new male acquaintance...but if you want the details on THAT, you have to email me...;)
The 2nd most embarrasing moment of the trip (for the 1st, again, you have to email me) came when my grandma, who was at the awards dinner to see me get my award, went up afterwards to the chair of the department at Penn and told him he should read my article on teaching because it would make him a better teacher. I wanted to sink into the floor! He's the CHAIR of the dept and probably one of the top 5 most famous guys in my field!! (My article "Multiple Methods, More Success" on how to teach stats just came out and I had brought a copy down to show my grandma.) That just shows you should think twice before showing published stuff to elderly relatives and also carefully monitor who grandmas speak to at social events with famous people present that you want to eventually hire you. :)

I DID IT
I ran the race, I finished the Race and I did not walk once!
I can't believe it. My time was 2 hours and 22 minutes. That's like an 11 minute mile! I am so excited, but the pain is so much that I was not able to sit down for a day. And let me just say going down all of my stairs is really tricky! The pain is worth the satisfaction I got from finishing a 13.1 mile race!
Hope all is well with everyone else!

Half marathon
Ok guys I am gearing up to run my half marathon on Saturday! I think I can do it but I just am putting out there in the world that I am a bit scared! I ran 10 miles this past Saturday and I did that ok so I have a feeling that I will able to do 13.5, but man on man what if I fall, or come in dead last? I think that my fear of embarrassing myself makes everything worse than it will be!

Steve in Avatar Review
Five poems in Avatar Review's Spring 2005 issue.
Also, our official Estimated Date of Delivery is January 2, 2006. Miraculously, I am still not experiencing nausea. I could, however, sleep all day.

we have news
We're apparently pregnant. Yes, we are excited. No, we don't have an exact due date yet, but it'll probably be around New Year's. I'm off to the doctor tomorrow, at which point we should have a lot more information.
